Confirmation is a Catholic ritual that comes after Baptism and the Eucharist. It has been performed for many years. Although it seems to have changed a little over the years, the reason for Confirmation hasn't. A sacrament in which the Holy Ghost is given to those already baptized in order to make them strong and perfect Christians and soldiers of Jesus Christ. During this Holy Sacrament, two or three anointing take place. When you get Confirmed, you are renouncing Satan and accepting Christ. At about 416 A.D. Pope Innocent declared that priests were no longer able to confirmation for that part of the initiation belonged to the Bishop. Back in those days children were confirmed at one, two and three years of age. But by the end of the medieval period, the age of seven seemed more appropriate. Priests from the early days saw Confirmation as an elaborated Baptism. Back then they advised that you should be Confirmed as soon after Baptism as possible. Confirmation Today - The age for Confirmation is currently at 13 or 14. This gives them a chance to understand and accept the responsibilities of the Catholic faith. It lets them make their own decision and unlike the older days, priests are able to give Confirmation. Confirmation is the third of the three sacraments of initiation.
